Government Attacks Public Sector Workers

Communication OfficerGeneral, News

“The Protecting Public Services Act would, if passed:

  • Restrain compensation for two years for unionized employees of the Broader Public Sector (BPS) and require employers to negotiate agreements that do not reduce services.
  • Freeze earnings for two years for managers who are eligible for performance pay in the BPS, Ontario Public Service (OPS) and agencies so they would not earn more this year and next than they did last year.
  • Introduce a permanent salary cap for new executives at no more than double the Premier’s salary.”

Access to child care affects many CUPE members

Brad WalchukGeneral

Earlier this summer, the Ontario Liberal government announced its intention to undertake a three-year “modernization” initiative of the province’s piecemeal child care system.

On June 27, Education Minister Laurel Broten released an online discussion paper called “Modernizing Child Care in Ontario”.  The deadline to make submissions online is September 24, 2012, and individuals are encouraged to submit a responses online through this link:  http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/childcare/modernizing.html.
