Your Benefits – U4

All Unit 4 members are student-employees and, as a result, have comprehensive health and dental care through the MSU (or, for graduate student members, the GSA). All questions about student health and dental should be directed to the MSU (or GSA).

CUPE has negotiated a $10,000 supplemental heath fund (which may include reproductive health and gender affirmation care) from McMaster through our efforts in collective bargaining, which will become effective on May 1, 2027.

Effective May 1, 2028, this fund will increase to $20,000. This account will provide a limited reimbursement for medical expenses deemed eligible to claim against your earnings according to CRA regulations, including prescription eye wear, prescription medication, medically necessary dental work, and more! Please continue to check your McMaster email account and our website (cupe3906.org) for updates about this fund in 2027! Specific details and eligibility will be determined throughout the 2026/27 academic year and supplemental coverage will be available for the 2027/28 academic year.

Effective April 2026, all Unit 4 members are entitled to access McMaster University’s Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) on the same basis as other employees at McMaster, at no cost to the Employee. This service is confidential and provides access to a wide variety of counselling services.

Individuals looking to access the EFAP can contact Telus Health through their website, app or by phone toll-free, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to book appointments, or access any EFAP service.
