CUPE 3902 Unit 4 Strike Aversion Rally

Communication Officer Events, News

CUPE 3902 needs your support!

November 8, 2012, 11:00am

St. Joseph Street, across from Kelly Library

Saint Michael’s College

University of Toronto

Short-term contract educators at Saint Michael’s College at the University of Toronto have been in first-contract negotiations for over a year. Their main outstanding issue is job security. On October 29, they had a 100% strike vote and will be on strike November 15 unless a deal is reached. This is an extremely small unit of about 40 members. Any support they receive would make a significant difference to their quality of life and working conditions.

Workshop for International (ESL) Teaching Assistants

Darko Ljubic Events, General, International, News

Dear International Members,

Leading tutorials or lab demonstrations can be an overwhelming task
when English is not your first language, and even more if you have
never before been teaching in front of a full classroom. On this
basis, Grazyna Drzazga and Ahmed Bekhit have tailored a workshop
focused on some of the issues international teaching assistants face
during their first class(es), and in response, they present some tips
and strategies on how to overcome them.

Without further ado, here is the information of the workshop.

Title: “Yes, You Can Teach in English: Workshop for Teaching Assistants.”

When: Thursday, from 12 noon to 2:30 pm.

Where: CLL (Center for Leadership in Learning) Teaching Commons
Inquiry Classroom, Fifth floor of Mills Library, Room 504.

Letter from CUPE 3906 Regarding the Line 9 Reversal

Communication Officer General

On October the 16th, the Executive and Political Action Committees of CUPE 3906 sent the attached email to Mayor Bob Bratina and Hamilton City Councillors speaking out about the Line 9 reversal project.

We hope the spec is covering this story rigorously and that the risks that would be incurred by the Hamilton community if the project were to go ahead are made apparent.
