  • Promoting the welfare of humanity and the environment and the elimination of pain and suffering through acts of community organizing, education and/or solidarity.

This is not an exhaustive list, but includes a few common examples of the things that past award winners have been involved in and that the selection committee considers.

  • The dedication and courage of the nominee’s activism.

The selection committee is comprised of members of the CUPE 3906 executive and members-at-large. Members of the selection committee cannot nominate a candidate. Statement on Trump’s Visa and Immigration Ban

Mary Ellen Campbell Uncategorized

Dear CUPE 3906 and Community Members,

In the light of the recent unfortunate news about Donald Trump’s executive order for imposing visa and immigration ban on citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries, CUPE 3906 International Committee and CUPE 3906 would like to state their strong opposition to this notorious executive order. CUPE 3906 at McMaster University is proud of the diversity of its members, staff, and executives regarding faith, religion, color, nationality, sexual orientation, and gender. We stand for diversity and we fight for equity and equality.

Therefore, we strongly condemn this executive order and stand with people in the United States who are protesting this visa and immigration ban. More importantly, we stand with immigrants and refugees who are fleeing conflict and oppression in their countries of origin. Canada truly values diversity and you are all welcome here.

Unit 1 Tentative Agreement Ratified by CUPE Members

Mary Ellen Campbell Uncategorized

Dear Unit 1 Members,

The ballots have been counted, and the Unit 1 (TA and RA in lieu) Tentative Agreement has been ratified by the majority of voting members.
The new Collective Agreement will come into effect upon ratification by the Employer at an upcoming Board of Governor’s meeting.

Summaries of the Tentative Agreement are available at the union office.

Thank you to all who supported the bargaining work throughout this process. While significant gains were made, there are still improvements that we will continue to strive for. We will build upon this Agreement, and will continue to work with you to ensure that your new rights are upheld. Unit 2 returns to bargaining in the new year, and Units 1 and 3 will be back at the table in just over two years time. The work continues, and it is only with your support and active participation that we will be able to achieve more of the priorities you identified throughout this process in the upcoming rounds.

In Solidarity,
Your CUPE 3906 Bargaining Team
